New Driving Test Rules 2026

From today 1st April (no April fools either), the DVSA are implementing changes to the way you can book and manage your driving test

Currently, your instructor can book a test for you, you are able to move that test around the country (if you move or go to uni/home etc) and you can have up to 6 changes of that booking. The booking can also be managed by yourself and/or your instructor.

In an attempt to try and combat the bots and some naughty ADIs who have been selling tests at an inflated price, the DVSA are making the changes below, which it is hoped will have a positive effect and bring the waiting times for a test down.

So the changes, they are;

🚗 You will only be able to make 2 changes to your test booking – effective from 31st March

🚗 Only yourself will be able to book a test – effective from 12th May 2026

🚗 Only yourself will be able to manage that test – swap date, move it, cancel it etc – effective from 12th May 2026

🚗 You will only be allowed to move the test to a choice of the 3 nearest test centres – this has yet to be confirmed as to which test centres these will be – effective from 9th June 2026

Fingers crossed this has the desired positive effect and reduces the wait time for a test, we shall see
